Success at the European Championships
2025 was a sucessful and significant year for SX due to Our first two Womens teams who competed in Nottingham
Read below for a report from Nottingham. (A summary of the older age Mens teams in Germany will be posted soon plus some photos in the Gallaery section).)
Report:
Southern Cross Masters Hockey had four teams competing in the European Cup 2025 T3 in Nottingham, UK. Two men's teams competed in the 55M & 60M Spirit of Masters (SoM) competitions.
Our first ever SX women's teams competed in the 55W & 65W SoM competitions.
All players, supporters, partners and OFTs (off field team members) had a fantastic time on tour, right from Day One with our 3-day training camp in Cambridge (both training and practice games were organised) through to the closing ceremony 15 days later for WMH tournament, held in Nottingham.
All teams were highly competitive and the results were:
60M – Gold medal winners over Germany 3-0. Dominated the competition winning all six matches with 25 goals for and only one against.
55M – Silver medal losing in the final to a strong England team 0-2. Finished pool matches in 2nd place and edged past Scotland in the Semi-Final via a shootout.
55W – Silver medal in a 3-way final series defeating Alliance in a shootout after being 1-1 at full time. Pool matches were played in the main draw pitting the team against national teams, such as Germany, Netherland and Spain. The O55s defeated the Belgium national team. Though most SX'ers were playing in an age division five years younger, all players highly enjoyed the experience of playing in high class matches.
65W – Finished in 4th place after a close tussle with England LX in the Bronze medal match losing 2-3. All their earlier pool matches were tight results with a win and draw to get them into the finals.
A big "thank you" to the UK-based women's players for joining SX ... and new international friendships have resulted ... and everyone is super keen for the next WMH event – the 2026 World Cup!
